Start with consistency
Ask who will usually provide the support, what happens when that person is unavailable and how changes are communicated. A clear answer matters more than a vague promise of flexibility.
Ask for evidence
- Relevant screening and checks
- Insurance appropriate to the support offered
- A written rate schedule and service agreement
- Clear limits on tasks outside the provider’s competence
Read the practical terms
Understand minimum booking times, travel charges, parking, cancellations, invoice timing and how either party can end the agreement. These details should be discussed before support begins.
Protect your privacy
A first enquiry should not require a diagnosis, NDIS participant number or full plan. Share only enough to establish location, general support needs, availability and preferred contact method.
Trust your experience
You can ask questions, involve an advocate or support person and take time before agreeing. A suitable provider should welcome clear expectations and respectful feedback.
